Craig holds a graduate degree in economics from the University of Toronto and has 15 years of experience in the private sector as an economic and financial forecaster. He spent four years as an economist at Statistics Canada and is a regular commentator on public policy. Craig is the author of Literacy Matters: A Call to Action, a report on the state of literacy in Canada. Each year, Craig travels across North America speaking at more than a hundred events about economic and financial developments. He is frequently called upon by the media to provide perspective on pressing issues. In addition to his role at TD, Craig is a strong advocate for the cause of literacy and is a champion of the charitable sector.

What's New
Literacy Innovation Award
The Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life Literacy Innovation Award honours innovation in the creation, development, implementation, and delivery of adult literacy or adult-integrated family literacy programs by a community organization in Canada.

There will be one (1) top award of $20,000 plus travel to Toronto for one representative to receive the award during ABC's Life Literacy Night in Fall 2012. In addition, up to four (4) honourable mention awards in the amount of $5,000 each will also be awarded. The awards as granted can be invested into the program and/or applied to operating funds.

Share your innovative adult or adult-integrated family literacy program with Canada. Award applications are being accepted until 5:00 PM ET on June 1, 2012.

Canadian Parents Missing Time to Help Their Children

ABC Life Literacy Canada recently released new national research regarding the learning habits of Canadian families. 62 percent of Canadian parents don't feel they have as much time as they would like to spend helping their child learn.

Family Literacy Day
Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. More than 1.5 million Canadians have already participated in the initiative since its debut.
